Musing:  Woe in Isaiah

Musing:  Woe in Isaiah

3:9

They display their sin like Sodom; they do not even hide it.

Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil on themselves.

3:11,12

Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon him, for what he deserves will be done to him.

O My people! Their oppressors are children, and women rule over them.

O My people! Those who guide you lead you astray

And confuse and destroy the direction of your paths.

5:18

Woe to those who drag iniquity with the cords of falsehood, and sin as if with cart ropes.

5:20

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;

Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness.

5:21

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight!

5:22,23

Woe to those who let the wicked go free for a bribe,

And take away the rights of the innocent!

10:1,2

Woe to those who enact evil statutes and to those who constantly record unjust decisions,

To deprive and rob the poor of My people,

So that widows may be their spoil and that they may plunder the orphans.

29:15

Woe to those who deeply hide their counsel far from the Lord,

And whose deeds are done in a dark place,

And they say, “Who sees us?” or “Who knows us?”

30:1

“Woe to the rebellious children,” declares the Lord,

“Who take counsel, but not of Me, and devise plans, but not of My Spirit,

Heaping sin upon sin.”

45:9

Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker – an earthenware vessel

Among the vessels of earth!

Will the clay say to the potter, “What are you doing?”

6:5

Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined!”

Because I am a man of unclean lips,

And I live among a people of unclean lips.”

24:16

From the ends of the earth we hear songs, “Glory to the Righteous One!”

But my heart is heavy with grief: “Woe to me! I am ruined! Woe to me!

Deceit still prevails, and treachery is everywhere.”
