7 Bow or Burn

Bow or burn, prostrate or perish: Dance to the tune or dance in the furnace. Empires exist on these edicts. Reigning monarchs, tyrant dictators, and religious rulers all operate on this terrifying principle.

Compliance or condemnation is their single sermon. By it fear, self-serving, and hypocrisy are instilled, while love, devotion, and sincerity are crucified. No one truly honors such oppressive overlords. Servile sycophants and groveling ingratiating lackeys are the only subjects in such kingdoms.

But freedom of conscience is seared and slain thereby. Independent reflection is quashed and individual initiative is forbidden. Submit or be sanctioned or slain: end of discussion. Discussion there never was. “This has come down from the above” is all that the peasants need to know. So, bow or burn.

“Then the herald loudly proclaimed, ‘To you the command is given, the moment you hear the sound of all kinds of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image. But whoever does not, shall be cast immediately into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire’” –Daniel 3:4-6. Ok, that’s clear enough.

But devotion is not derived under duress. Nothing in true spirituality ever results by force. Intimidation does not instill adoration. Threats are not the springs from which worship flows. Punishment does not kindle love’s glow; it rather extinguishes it. O foolish religious men! You are destroying everything Christ is seeking and building everything that Christ will tear down! Are you so blind?

And if there are any in your ash-heap kingdoms that dare to stand erect, gazing into heaven while cowardly congregations prostrate at your every decree, you, the son of Nebuchadnezzar, will rage. “These men, O king, have disregarded you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image you have set up” –Daniel 3:12. O you can be sure, the reigning madman will shower them with hot threats.

“If you do not worship, you will immediately be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and what god is there who can deliver you out of my hands?” –Daniel 3:15. And here is unmasked the naked reality of all such dominating dictators; he considers himself to be supreme. He is the god who must be served. No rivals are tolerated.

He will dictate, for he is king. He will pontificate, for as the shrine’s custodian he determines the mandatory traditions. He will execute, for he is the unquestioned judge and authority in that kingdom. In one man are concentrated Prophet, Priest, and King: the legislative, judicial, and executive all in one man. And when all three are combined into one man, you have encountered a Babylonian abomination.

I hope you see the evil of this. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did.

“O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to give you an answer concerning this matter. Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, we are not going to serve your gods” –Daniel 3:16-18. Hear their bold rebuff: “Our God is able to deliver us, but if not, we will not bow to your delusion.” To them, devotion did not depend upon deliverance. Consecration must not be compromised by compliance. Christ Jesus alone is Lord and we will bow to none other. This they did and this we applaud.

The Son of God will meet you in the furnace if you dare to stand. And this is what establishes a testimony: They “yielded up their bodies so as not to serve or worship any god except their own God, violating the king’s command” –Daniel 3:28. The choice is Christ or king; 2 masters cannot both be served. One or the other’s command must be obeyed; and one or the other’s command must be violated.

Nebuchadnezzar’s cousin, Diotrephes, perpetuates this horrid regime of terror. “I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not acknowledge us. I will call attention to his deeds, talking nonsense against us with wicked words of gossip; and not satisfied with that, he not only refuses to welcome the brothers himself, but hinders and stops those who want to do so and throws them out of the church!” –3 John 9,10. Diotrephes was Executive, Legislator, and Judge rolled into one.

Christ has “first place in everything” –Colossians 1:18; Diotrephes loves to have that first place. I hope you see a despicable and desperate conflict here. Diotrephes is GO of Prostrate Parish. Bow or burn.

So, when the music sounds, where will you be found: standing or prostrating?

6 Brick for Stone

“Let us build a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name. And they used brick for stone” –Genesis 11:3,4. Here is self-exaltation reaching the heights of denominated religious wickedness. Behold the crafted shrine composed of conformed components: man-made bricks.

Nimrod’s tower became the first religious structure in a fixed location. This was a staggering paradigm shift. Substitutions to worship in Spirit and Truth abound, and Nimrod institutionalized his.

Worship in Spirit is quenched by external ritual. Worship in Truth is supplanted by man-devised tradition and decrees. This is the legacy of Nimrod’s tower that perpetuates up to today.

Prior to this Babylonian invention, man was his own priest. He had direct access to God through God’s own appointed way: altars of earth and stone. “You shall make an altar of earth for Me in every place where I cause My name to be remembered. If you make an altar of stone for Me, you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it. And you shall not go up by steps to My altar” –Exodus 20:24-26. The altar of God is not left to human invention and craft. And what a provision!

Stones and earth are readily available in any locale as divinely provided means to worship. Both are creations of God and sufficient to convey true devotion independent of man’s ideas and ingenuity. But now all was forever changed. With the crafting of Nimrod’s tower, permanence was established; movement has ceased. No more is man free to worship as his own priest. His shrine demands that participants come to its locale and be in subjection to ceremonies determined by the priest-craft of others.

Nimrod’s building will require maintenance, maintenance requires a custodian, and both require money. As such, devotees must be solicited and terms of engagement established in order to fund the enterprise; the custodian must eat and the shrine must perpetuate.

The building of shrines eliminates recourse to earth and stones; they are inaccessible and out of sight, covered beneath the tower’s foundation. Neither are they welcome inside. Bring them within and they will immediately be cast out by the custodian and his cronies. What is of God has no place within Nimrod’s structures of burned bricks. Hence mashed and molded, formed and furnaced, multiplied bricks emerge identically proportioned: hardened uniform components incapable of change.

Stones are made by God, each with its unique properties. Bricks are made by man, none with distinctive design. The Lord Jesus builds His church with “living stones” –1 Peter 2:5. The Nimrods of this world fabricate their shrines with identical building blocks of their own schemes. That building plan does not accommodate irregularities and originality. In their crafted traditions, conformity is accounted as communion and uniformity as unity. Thus commences Babylonian priest-craft rule.

Bricks are forced to conform to Nimrod’s mold by subjection through threat, intimidation, and punishment. Those not complying are cast aside as worthless rubble in his greater enterprise; no tolerance for deviants is allowed. And the spirit of Babylon survived Babel’s dispersion on the plains of Shinar.

The legacy of a shrine with its attendant tyrant custodian and man-made traditions is instinctively embedded in the pulse of every culture. Its spirit breathes in every ritual, in every denominated shrine throughout Christendom. Answer this simple question. Where in the NT can you show your typical Sunday morning church service? Where? Just quote one verse. Show to the world that what Christendom does each Sunday morning has even one passage to support what is done in those grand pageants.

Can’t find it can you? If not even one verse in the whole New Testament supports this monstrosity we call “church,” then from whence did it arise? It came from Babylon. Nimrod institutionalized it at his tower and it spread worldwide from there. Priest-craft prevailed. The custodian king reigned.

“Worship” was localized at the Shrine. Individual priests were no longer tolerated. All conformed to his scheme. Punishment was meted out for any who did not comply. Money was collected for maintenance of the building and its custodian.

Stones of God’s creation were cast aside for man-made bricks of his own design. Uniformity replaced unity. And rebellion colored it all. It is no small matter when brick is substituted for stone.

Jesus the Light 20 Delivered from Darkness

Jesus the Light   20   Delivered from Darkness

He delivered us from the power of darkness  and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son of His Love –Col.1:13

Ps.115:3-7: “Our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases. Their idols are the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; they have ears, but they do not hear; nor do they mutter through their throat. Those who make them are like them; so is everyone who trusts in them.”

Jer.10:2-5 exposes the folly of idolatry: “Their gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field! They cannot speak, and they need to be carried because they cannot walk! Do not fear them, for they can do no harm, nor can they do any good.”

True believers need fear nothing from the false prophets/priests of these fake gods. Omens, signs, enchantments, predictions, astrology, prophecies are all false messages from these deluding things of nothing. Do not fear them; they cannot harm the real believer and certainly can do no good at all.

1 Cor.10:14-20: “Therefore my beloved, flee from idolatry…What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? No, rather, that the things which the nations sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God. And I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.”

Many fear ancestral covenants and sins of their forefathers coming upon them. Others are fearful that the gods they abandon will harm them or their families if they forsake them because of love for Christ.

But these are needless fears for any true believer in Christ Jesus. Gods are things of nothing; they do not exist. There are no such thing as gods.

Jer.16:19,20: “Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, worthlessness, and there is nothing profitable in them. Can man make gods for himself? Yet they are not gods!”

2 Kings 17:35-39: “The Lord charged them, saying: ‘You shall not fear other gods, nor bow down to them nor serve them nor sacrifice to them; but the Lord…you shall fear, Him you shall worship.”

Ps.96:4,5: “For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is terrible above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are demons, but the Lord made the heavens.”

Persecution from the family and tribe often will result as it did in New Testament days. But there will not be persecution from the gods who have been forsaken; they are not real. They are nothing and can do nothing.

Isa.41:23-29: “Gods, do something, whether good or bad, so that we will be amazed and filled with fear. Indeed, you are nothing and your work is nothing; whoever chooses you is an abomination. See, all these gods are false and worthless! All your idols are wind and confusion!”

The Thessalonians “turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God” -1 Thess.1:9. Yes, they did suffer affliction from their people because of their faith in Jesus, but not from the gods.

1 Thess.2:13-3:4: “When you received the Word of God…you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the Word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. For you also endured the same sufferings at the hands of your own countrymen, even as they did from the Jews.”

Dear Listener, “All the gods of the peoples are non-existent things” -1 Chron.16:26. How can we boldly say that there are no gods, that they are deluding things of nothing, that no gods exist? Because the Almighty true and living God has told us so.

Isa.43:10,12: “Understand that I am the only God. Besides Me there is no other god; there never was and never will be. It is I who have revealed and saved and proclaimed. No foreign god has ever done this. I am the only God, says the Lord.”

The temptation is to compromise between idolatrous practices and the Gospel of Christ. You cannot maintain traditional practices so as to not offend the gods, ancestors, and family, while vainly holding onto a hope of eternal life from Christ. It cannot be done; we cannot serve both.

Though a man has two eyes, he can only look in one direction. His two legs can only walk upon one trail. Only one voice can be listened to at a time though his ears are two.

Serving two masters is an impossibility. “No man can serve two masters” -Matt. 6:24.

There must be repentance from all aspects of idolatry if the Gospel is to be received unto salvation. There can be no compromise between God and Satan.

Light immediately scatters darkness so that it disappears altogether. It must be one or the other, not both.

1 Pet.1:18,19: “Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your empty way of life handed down by tradition from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ.”

Ancestral traditional rituals and practices are wholly based upon instructions passed down from the spirits of the ancestors through the fathers. The Word of God says that they are empty ways of life.

These are the very things that the blood of Christ has redeemed us from: false practices of false so-called gods. They must therefore be abandoned.

2 Kings 17:35-39: “‘And the…commandment which He wrote for you, you shall be careful to observe forever; you shall not fear other gods. And the covenant that I have made with you, you shall not forget, nor shall you fear other gods. But the Lord your God you shall fear; and He will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.’”

Other gods are not to be feared by the true believer. They are powerless before the one true and living God because they “are nothing, and [their] work is nothing” -Isa.41:24. The Lord protects those who fear Him from all spiritual enemies, including the false gods of earth.

Ancestral curses and covenants are not to be feared or trusted. These ancestral covenants are powerless before the Almighty God. They will prove to be a false and empty protection from the sure wrath of God coming upon all who trust them and follow other gods. The only ones who will escape are those who are resting upon the unmoving Foundation laid by God Himself, which is Christ Jesus the Lord [1 Pet.2:4-6].

Dear Listener, “If the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed” –Jn.8:36. The evil one cannot touch you there. Col.1:13: “He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son of His love.” There you are safe.

King Jesus encamps around all that have been delivered by the God of heaven. In His kingdom of Light and Life, the power of darkness no more holds you in bondage.

And if the enemy attacks, he must first meet Christ Jesus the Lord. Jn.10:28: “I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish, and no one can snatch them out of My hand.”

Rom.8:38,39 triumphantly proclaims: “Neither angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Dear Listener, abide here and rejoice.

Farming and Animal Husbandry

“And others fell on good soil, and yielded a crop, some a hundred-fold, some sixty, and some thirty” – Matthew 13:8.

Understanding your Soil or Earth

SOIL – Organic material on the immediate surface of the earth that serves as a natural medium for the growth of land plants.

Types of Soil:

  1. Loamy   Sandy     3.  Clay     4.  Clay and Sandy
  2. Loamy soil is very rich in organic minerals with its dark humus, many crops or plants can thrive well on this type of soil:

Cereals, grains, plantains, bananas, spinach, peppers (hot and green), lettuce and vegetables.

Some plants will not thrive on the organic loamy soil:

Tomatoes – this crop will not yield well when planted on loamy soil because of the effect of fungus infection on it.

Cow peas (beans) – this crop may not be affected by fungus but excess fertility in loamy soil will reduce the productivity of this legume.

  1. Sandy soil is in two categories: fine or coarse. When fine sandy soil is mixed with loamy soil it could be useful for farming. Listed are some plants that thrive on fine sandy loamy soil:

tomatoes, ground nuts, tubers (yams, sweet potatoes), Irish potatoes, cow peas (beans), watermelon, cucumber, and other drought friendly crops.

  1. Clay soil is known for its adhesive or gummy nature. It doesn’t absorb water quickly, but when soaked it doesn’t dry out quickly. Cash crops like:

Cocoa, oil palms, walnuts, citrus, cola nuts, and pineapple do ok* in this type of soil.

  1. Clay sandy soil …? *

Dry Season Farming:

 Irrigation:

The operation of causing water to drop or flow on the soils surface for crop nourishment.

Most of the crops grown during the season can also grow in the dry season through irrigation systems. There are 5 major types of irrigation namely:

  1. Flowing Dropping         3. Broadcast

Some simple short time crops that can be planted during dry season are vegetables such as:

Spinach, cabbage, onions, okra, garden eggs, green beans, garlic, turmeric, ginger, carrots, watermelon, ogwu, sweet peppers, etc.

All these can be grown through irrigation if you have a sure source of non-acidic water.

“And plant dill, and scatter (broadcast) cumin, and plant wheat in rows, barley in its place and rye within” – Isa. 28:25. For his God instructs and teaches him properly – Isa. 28:25-26.

Understanding your Crops:

There are many crops with different species:

  • TUBERS/DEEP ROOTS (life cycle 9-12 months): *

Yams manioc (cassava), sweet potato (life cycle 90 days [3 months]).

  • LEGUMES (life cycle 90 days [3 months]):

Peas (cow peas, pigeon peas), melon (watermelon, egusi), soybeans, cucumber, and ground nuts.

  • CEREAL (life cycle 90-150 days [3-5 months]):

Maize, sorghum, guinea corn (red or white), etc.

  • VEGETABLES (28-30 days [1 month]):

Garden eggs, carrots, green beans, lettuce, cabbage, sweet green peppers, etc.

  • BULBS and RIHOZOMES (60-90 days [2-3 months]):

Onions (red and white), ginger, Irish potatoes, turmeric, garlic, etc.

“The Lord God says, “While the earth remains seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” – Gen. 8:22.

Understanding your Seasons:

On this part of the continent, we have six months of rain and six months of drought. Prospective farmers then are faced with two planting periods, especially in the Southeast, West: some parts of Northcentral (middle belt) and some parts of the deep south. Draught/dry season begins from the month of November to April, while rain starts from the month of May to October.

There are likely some difference in the Northwest and Eastern regions i.e. Sokoto through Maiduguri, and Kebbi through Taraba.

First Aid

A skilled and temporary treatment given to casualties or persons suddenly taken ill before transferring to a clinic or hospital.

or

Temporary emergency treatment given to casualties or persons before being placed in the care of a doctor or removed to a hospital.

Qualities of a First Aider

  1. He or she must be able to take charge until someone more experienced is available.
  2. He or she must act quickly, calmly and methodically.

Reasons for First Aid

  1. First aid is given to sustain and save lives.
  2. It is to prevent the casualty’s condition from becoming worse.
  3. It is to promote quick recovery.

Before Giving First Aid

  1. You must be able to assess the situation.
  2. You must be able to diagnose each casualty.
  3. You must give immediate and accurate treatment.
  4. You must listen to the complaints.
  5. You must check for your safety and that of the casualty’s.
  6. You must check for unconsciousness, breathing, and bleeding.

First Aid Action for

Unconscious Persons

This type of casualty needs more extensive and thorough examination.

  1. Check if there is any severe bleeding before further examination.
  • Check if there is bleeding from any part of: ears, nose, throat, or mouth.
  1. Check the pulse rate (normal pulse rate:

adults – from 60-80 beats per minute.

children – from 80-100 beats per minute.

babies – from 100-140 beats per minute).

Anything above or below these seems not to be normal.

  1. Check for head injury.

After the Examination

  • Act quickly and methodically.
  • Ensure that there is no further danger to self and the casualty.
  • In case of breathing failure, clear mucus from the airway if necessary.
  • Control or arrest bleeding.
  • Guard against shock.
  • Give assurance to casualty.
  • Position casualty in comfortable position and arrange for transfer to the nearest clinic.

Note: Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

First Aid for Person with

High Fever

  1. Remove all clothing.
  2. Fan casualty.
  3. Pour cool water over casualty

or

Put cloth soaked in cool water on casualty’s chest or forehead then fan the casualty until fever goes down below 38o C.

  1. Give a medicine to bring down fever e.g., Paracetamol.

Note: If the fever did not go down take the person to the nearest clinic immediately.

First Aid for Snake Bites

Not all snakes are poisonous. There are poisonous and non-poisonous snakes. The poisonous ones will leave two deep fang marks, while the non-poisonous ones have no deep fang marks.

If anyone is bitten by any type of snake do this:

  • Tell the casualty to stay quiet and not to move the bitten part.
  • Wrap the bitten area with a clean cloth to stop the spread of the poison to other parts of the body.
  • To save the life of the casualty if they were bitten far from the hospital, you can make a small cut on the site of the bite and put table salt to the site; then find a way to carry the casualty to the hospital.

or

  • Put ice pack on it to reduce the pain.

or

  • Give paracetamol.
  • Take the snake along with you when you are going to the hospital.

First Aid for Poison Victims

Poison

Poison is anything liquid, solid, or gas taken into the body in sufficient amounts to cause internal injury or loss of function of some vital organs in the body or may cause death.

First Aid for Various Poisons

  1. ACID – Do not make patient vomit; give milk of magnesia.
  2. KEROSINE/PETROL – Do not make patient vomit; give palm oil.
  3. CAUSTIC SODA/CAUSTIC ACID – Do not make patient vomit; give milk of magnesia.
  4. SEDATIVE – Make the patient vomit; give tea, coffee.
  5. INSECTICIDE – Give tea coffee; give potassium per manganate.

Signs and Symptoms of Poison

  1. Burned or swelling of lips and tongue.
  2. Sever burning pain in the throat and stomach.
  3. Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
  4. Shock, mental confusion.
  5. Difficult vision, sweating, jerky breathing.

First Aid for Fractures

Fractures

This is a break in the length of a bone causing the loss of the function of the bone.

 Causes of Fractures

Fractures may be caused by direct violence, accident, sharp blows or pressure on a bone, foolish activities, old age, or disease.

Signs and Symptoms of Fractures

  1. There is pain and tenderness on the site.
  2. Crepitus (the crackling noise made when moving the broken bone).
  3. Deformity
  4. Loss of function
  5. There may be shock due to excessive pain or loss of blood.
  6. Swelling

Simple or Compound Fractures

Simple – The bone is broken and affects or causes damage to the surrounding tissue e.g., broken wrist.

Compound – The bone is broken and affects or causes damage to the underlying tissue or muscle, part of the bone may be exposed to the surface and it is potentially infected e.g., broken thigh bone.

First Aid Procedure for Fractures

  • Splint the limb to prevent more injury.
  • Keep the bone in a fixed position.
  • Then transfer casualty to the nearby hospital.

First Aid Procedures for Dislocations

This is a bone that came out of place at a joint. What to do?

  • Try to put the bone back into place.
  • Tie a bandage firmly to it so that it will not slip out again (for a few weeks).
  • Avoid forceful use of the limb for the joint to heal.

First Aid for Minor Illnesses

MALARIA

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Headache, general body pain, chills, and high temperature.

TREATMENT:

  • Lower the temperature.
  • Give plenty cool water to drink.
  • Give anti-malarial medicine.
  1. COUGH

A cough is not a sickness of itself but is a sign of many different sicknesses that affect the throat or lungs.

SOME CAUSES:

Cold. Flu, worms (when passing through the lungs, measles, asthma).

TREATMENT:

  • Loosen mucus, drink lots of water.
  • Breath hot water vapor.
  • For a sever dry cough take a syrup of mist expectorants.
  • Find out what sickness is causing the cough and treat that.
  1. VOMITING:

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Stomach upset, a problem in the stomach or gut may be the reason for more serious illnesses such as: an infection, poisoning from spoiled food, almost any sickness with high fever or severe pain may cause vomiting; especially malaria, earache, and hepatitis.

TO CONTROL SIMPLE VOMITING:

  • Give lime water.
  • Give rehydration drink.
  • If vomiting does not stop soon, give a vomit control medicine like Avomin or Promethazine.
  1. DIARRHEA AMD DYSENTERY:

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

loose or watery stools (diarrhea), mucus and blood in the stools (dysentery).

TREATMENT:

  • Give rehydration drink (O.R.S.)
  • Give nutritious food.

Note: For diarrhea with vomiting the person’s danger for dehydration increases. It is very important now to give the rehydration drink.

The way to prepare the rehydration drink:    In 1 liter of clean water put one level       teaspoon of salt and eight level teaspoons of sugar. Mix completely before starting to drink. Drink every five minutes.

  1. PILES (HEMORRHOIDS):

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Piles or hemorrhoids are varicose veins of the anus or rectum which feel like little lumps or balls.

TREATMENT:

  • Cactus juice dabbed on hemorrhoids helps shrink them.
  • Eat plenty of fruit or food with a lot of fiber.
  • If no improvement, seek medical advice.
  1. DIABETES:

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Too much sugar in the blood, too much eating and getting fat, common in adults over 40 years old, more serious in young people.

Check for these signs:

  1. Always thirsty
  2. Urinating often and a lot
  3. Always tired
  4. Weight loss

TREATMENT:

  • To know if a person has diabetes go for a urine test.
  • Best controlled without taking medicine but eating correctly
  • Correct eating diet: whole grain, wheat bread, beans; avocados, apples, garden eggs, unripe plantain flour.
  • Cactus: cut cactus into small pieces and crush them to squeeze out the liquid. Drink ½ cup of the liquid 3 times a day.
  1. STOMACH ULCER:

A chronic sore in the stomach or small intestines, caused by too much acid.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Burning irritation in the stomach, mid chest pain (some mistake this for heart problems) but it could be “Heart burn”. If the pain gets worse when lying down, it is heart burn.  This heart burn leads to stomach ulcers.

Check for these signs:

  1. Burning irritation
  2. Sharp pain in the pit of the stomach: stomach pain.
  3. Vomiting (if a severe case)

TREATMENT:

  • Drink a lot of water.
  • Eat regularly (not too much).
  • Do not eat fatty or greasy foods.
  • Do not drink anything that contains alcohol.
  • Avoid food that makes pain worse.
  • Aloe Vera is a good plant for treating ulcers: cut it and soak it in water over night and then drink one glass of the slimy, bitter water every two hours.
  • Take antacid e.g., Cimetidine, Tagamet, Ranitidine.
  1. TYPHOID FEVER:

This is an infection of the gut that affects the whole body. It is spread from feces to mouth in contaminated food and water.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Cold or flu, headache, sore throat, dry cough, high temperature, slow pulse weakness, weight loss, dehydration, sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.

  • If the person shits blood or develops signs of pneumonia, take them to a hospital.
  1. COLDS AND FLU:

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Common virus infection that may cause runny nose, cough, fever, and pain in the joints. It almost always goes away without medicine.

TREATMENT:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Get enough rest.
  • Take paracetamol to relieve headache and fever.
  • Eat oranges and other fruits containing vitamin C as a supplement.
  1. ARTHRITIS:

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

Painful joints, in older people it cannot be cured completely.

TREATMENT:

  • Place cloth soaked in hot water on the painful joints (hot compresses).
  • Exercise – It is important to do simple exercises to help maintain the range of motion in the painful joints.
  • Rest – If possible, avoid hard work and heavy exercises that bother the painful joints.
  • Take some medicine that relieves pain e.g., Ibuprofen, Diclofenac.
  • Keep yourself warm; cold encourages the arthritis pain.

Note: Not every painful joint is as a result of arthritis, but painful joints in young people and children may be a sign of other serious illnesses such as rheumatic fever, or tuberculosis.

  1. RHEUMATIC FEVER:

A disease of children and young adults who have suffered from strep throat 1-3 weeks previously.

  • If there are no change go to a hospital.
  1. MEASLES:

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

High fever, cough, catarrh, and eye discharge, later the mouth becomes sore and a rash comes out on the whole body. It is a virus infection of children.

TREATMENT:

  • Drink lots of water.
  • Give nutritious food.
  • For fever give paracetamol.
  • If there is a sign of pneumonia, or severe pain in the ear give antibiotics like penicillin or co-trimoxazole.
  1. PNEUMONIA:

An acute infection of the lungs. It occurs after other respiratory illnesses such as measles, cough like asthma or bronchitis.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

High fever, rapid shallow breathing with wheezing (the nostrils may spread with each breath), cough with yellow, greenish colored or slightly bloody mucus, chest pain.

TREATMENT:

  • Give antibiotics like penicillin, co-trimoxazole (Septrin), or ampicillin. Ampicillin is usually the best.
  • Give paracetamol to lower the temperature and reduce the pain.
  • Give plenty of liquids.
  • Ease the cough and loosen the mucus by giving the person plenty of water.
  • Let him breathe hot water vapor.
  • If the person is wheezing give an anti-asthmatic medicine like ephedrine.
  1. WOUNDS:

Any injury to the body tissues – cuts (breaks in the skin and into deeper tissue). there are “infected wounds” and “non-infected wounds” (called bruises).

INFECTED WOUNDS

SIGNS OF INFECTION:

Redness, swelling, hot and painful, pus, may smell bad.

TREATMENT:

  • Put hot compresses over the wound for a few minutes 3-4 times a day.
  • Raise the infected part above the level of the heart.
  • Give penicillin (ampicillin, ampiclox).
  • Cleanse the wound with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with antibiotic ointment.

NON-INFECTED WOUNDS

SIGN OF NON-INFECTED WOUND:

Fresh cut less than 4 cm.

TREATMENT:

  • Clean with soap and water.
  • If necessary, stop bleeding by pressure, then apply clean or sterile dressing.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLEAN AND STERILE DRESSINGS:

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Eusol lotion
  • Methylated spirits
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Gauze bandages
  • Plasters
  • Cotton wool
  1. PERSONAL HYGIENE (CLEANLINESS):

It is very important in the prevention of many kinds of infection. Many infections and health problems are caused because of lack of cleanliness.

PROBLEMS THAT COME BECAUSE OF LACK OF CLEANLINESS:

Diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid fever, cholera, intestinal worms, cough, and catarrh.

PREVENTIONS:

  • Wash your hands after having a bowel movement.
  • Where hookworm is common, do not go barefoot.
  • Bath regularly.
  • Do not spit on the floor when you cough.
  • Cover your mouth with your hand or a cloth when you sneeze.
  • Do not allow children to have a bowel movement near the house.
  • Sweep and mop the floor regularly.
  • Boil and cool your water before you drink it.
  • Prevent flies from touching your food by covering it.
  • Wash your fruit before eating it.

What and Why

If all you know is What, you will never be more than an echo.

Only if you grasp the Why will you become a voice.

“He made known His Ways unto Moses, and His Acts to the children of Israel” – Ps.103:7.

Israel only saw the What; Moses perceived the Why. Moses spoke; Israel listened. That is the difference.

The men of Issachar not only “had understanding of the times,” the What, but they also had “knowledge of what Israel should do,” the Why – I Chron.12:32.

Many are beginning to raise the alarm about What they perceive as abnormal, corrupt, and wrong in the church of our generation. Good; we need such observations to awaken to the What of waywardness.

But how about the Why? Have the underlying reasons for the outward manifestations been grasped?

More importantly, do you know their solutions? Few are grasping the Why of the remedy and thus are little more than an echo; the restoring voice of the Lord is not heralded thereby.

Any fool can throw stones; only the wise can build with them.

What and Why: where are you now?

What Motivates Missionaries?

Midday finds us trekking along narrow trails through eight foot high razor grass in sweltering humidity. Along the way a hapless snake loses his head by a swift machete blow. A narrow clearing of sorts emerges just ahead sporting some 10 or so palm frond thatched huts.

Enter we upon that village where a white man has never visited, where a Bible has never been opened. 3 ancient women with skin like blackened elephants squat with expressionless observant stares, those eyes seemingly oblivious to the stinging curling smoke dancing around their motionless forms. We greet through an interpreter.

This is not the place for pulpits, choirs, or Evidence that Demands a Verdict. No, this calls for a practical apologetic. “In your religion, do you know for certain that your sins are forgiven?” We pause for their thoughtful and trembling replies. A troubled “No” is muttered through leathery lips. “Has your religion given you freedom from fear of death?” “No” again.

“Does your religion provide you power over evil spirits?” That “No” is desperate this time. It is then that we gently yet bluntly suggest, “Then perhaps you have the wrong religion.” Silence now and more silence. At last the eldest of the trio ventures forth in a faltering cracked cry: “What then must we do to be saved?”

A glad gospel follows, simple and pointed from John 5:24: “Truly, truly I say to you, he who hears My Word and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life and will not come into judgment, but has already passed from death into life.”

And then “the people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light, and those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, upon them a Light dawned” –Mt.4:16. These 3 beautiful souls will be there to welcome you into heaven.

That’s why we do it.

5 No Religion

In the beginning God created no religion. None was needed.

Only the pure communion of spirit to Spirit prevailed with all the faculties of soul and body harnessed to that end. There were no rituals, ceremonies, shrines, or altars. Man was his own priest. Fellowship was co-extensive throughout the activities of the day; for God and man shared in a common life. No division between sacred and secular existed. Devotion was not an addendum to daily pursuits.

Love, holiness, and truth were an integral, instinctive, and innate flow from a heart that was in a living union with the living God. Communion was a condition, not an activity. Worship was woven into the warp and woof of the fabric of human will, not an adaptation to obligations imposed from without.

But the revolt of self-will, sin, changed all. Fig leaves were donned instead of garments of light, shame supplanted purity, fear replaced devotion, while hiding overtook communion. A terrible breach produced a terrible consequence. That brash eruption of lawlessness distorted the reflective faculties, alienated the soul, and darkened the understanding. Man became a horrid religious creature.

Desperate substitutes were devised to amend for wayward choices. Fig leaves, plucked from their living source, were crafted to cover shameful exposure in sin’s wake. Makeshift garments were hastily sewn from now withering and soon decaying sources. This is the legacy of Eden’s first religious act.

Man-devised solutions to sin have no life, do not endure, address the externals alone, and are ultimately rejected by God altogether. It is a parable of sorts: Man’s religion fails to cover guilt and shame.

God, however, brings a solution from above; only the death of a substitute can cover the stain, corruption, and guilt of sin. And this He alone provides; it is not a product of human ingenuity. The lamb must be slain to provide a suitable covering for lawless deeds. And the Lord Jesus has done just that.

“Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin” resounds, echoing through the corridors of the ages. And why? Because the death of separation ensues the instant the heart rises in lawlessness: a death that cannot be remedied by human contrivance.

A fire must be kindled upon earth, a victim slain, and a sacrifice ascend before dark deeds be purged of their stain. “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” –John 1:29. This is Christ.

He has restored all that was lost. Spiritual death is swallowed up in life. The flesh is overtaken by the Spirit. Corruption gives way to purity’s radiance. Self and malice cower before love. Joy banishes shame, and forgiveness’ confidence conquers guilt. And worship at shrines by ceremony is now passé.

“You worship what you do not know. But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him” –John 4:23.

Worship in Christ Jesus is in the Spirit, not in ceremonies, shrines, externals, traditions, and rituals. Real worship is in Truth, not in shadows, symbols, and partial aids to reach the Real.

There is no religion in union with the Lord Jesus. No shrines, rituals, or ceremonies are needed. Only the pure communion of spirit to Spirit prevails. Futile days of fashioning fig leaves is over. In the beginning, God created no religion in Christ. None was needed. None is needed today. Christ is all. But what have we done? How shall we account for the monstrosities we have erected in Christendom? How?

Why do we abide in shadow systems and schemes of men? Why do we continue to submit to Pontiffs and Prophets, Priests and Pastors when heaven is open to even the weakest of disciples?

Christ abides within every true believer as the source of all life and everything good. He abides in the midst of even 2 or 3 gathered in His Name [Mathew 18:20]. Every real Christian is a real spiritual priest: “to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” –1 Peter 2:5.

Spirit to spirit communion is restored. Christ’s redeemed are all equally priests. Worship is in Spirit and Truth; shrines are irrelevant and traditions and ceremonies are rejected as the useless man-made bondage that they are. Passive attendance at the shrine’s mandated meetings is cancelled. You are free.

Christ is our only King and Mediator: one Lord, one faith, one body, one fellowship – No Religion.

4 Bible Babble

Bible Babble and Babel in the Bible are not the same. Babel in the Bible refers to the confusion of tongues. Bible Babble refers to our confusion about tongues. “Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and uninformed men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad, out of your mind?” –1 Corinthians 14:23. Yes, of course, they will; and they do, and so do I.

Sit and listen to 10 different news broadcasts simultaneously. When your wife asks, “Did you listen to the news?” You reply, “Yes.” She says, “What’s happening?” You say, “I don’t know, but the Spirit was moving.” That’s Bible Babble. It is profitless foolishness. Jesus warned us about “praying” like that.

“When you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the heathen do. They think that they will be heard for their many words” –Mathew 6:7. They won’t. In Accra, a woman gave prayer points in English and then “prayed” O shulio baba. O shulio baba. In Abuja, the GO shouted prayer points understandably and then burst out with Sum rabosk, sum rabosk. In Makurdi, when 400 of us were to pray, a woman “prophetess” behind me tweeted bird-like Breet, breet. All of these went on for 30 minutes. Bible Babble.

By babbling, you never know if your prayers are answered, because you never know what was said; that’s dumb, no “Amen” to that. When you gather, speak intelligibly with understanding, for building up and conviction, not to make noise. “I’d rather speak 5 words with my mind so that I may instruct others also rather than 10,000 words in a tongue” –1 Corinthians 14:19. That was Paul. “Jesus died for your sins” is 5 words. “Shunta rabuska debandalo conta masako” times 2,000 is Bible Babble.

“If someone speaks in a tongue, it should be two, or at the most three, one after the other, and someone must interpret. But if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church” –1 Corinthians 14:27,28. So here’s the rules: [1] 2 or at most 3 [2] each in turn [3] interpretation is mandatory [4] no interpreter? Just shut up. Simple. That’s biblical but not babblical. Why don’t we do that? Good question.

Let’s get this straight: Bible Babble is a sign of insanity, not of spirituality. Who spoke in tongues more than any church? Corinth. Who were carnal more than most? Corinth. Do the math.

“And I, brethren could not speak to you as spiritual people but as to carnal, as to infants in Christ. For you are still carnal” –1 Corinthians 3:1,3. Here are unspiritual Corinthians speaking in tongues while being carnal; Bible Babble is no sign that you are baptized or filled with the Holy Spirit. Let that sink in.

Babbling in “tongues” builds up no one, including yourself. Tongues are not for self-edification; no spiritual gifts are. The gift of giving is not meant for self-enrichment. Teaching is not to instruct oneself. Healing is not imparted for curing self. Tongues are not for self-edification as 1 Corinthians 14:4 tells us.

“The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.” Self-edification is carnal; church edification is spiritual – that’s the point. This verse is a rebuke to Corinthian carnality, not an applauding of self-improvement. All things in the church are to be for mutual edification, encouragement, and instruction. How many times does the Spirit of God need to say this? Well, He did at least 8 times in this one chapter, verses 3,4,5,12,17,19,26,31. How long till we get the point?

How long till we acknowledge and practice building up one another in love? Gatherings are for giving to others, not gaining for self: to build up and bless, not for spiritual display and personal gain.

“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a sounding brass and clanging cymbal” –1 Corinthians 13:1. “Unless you speak intelligible words with the tongue easy to understand, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will be speaking into the air!” –1 Corinthians 14:9. “You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not edified” –1 Corinthians 14:17. “Let all things be done for edification” –1 Corinthians 14:26.

No understanding = no edification. No edification = no love. No love = carnality. Just be quiet. You are a useless accosting obnoxious noise without love. What then shall we do? For we’re in a mess alright.

Simple. “Pursue love, yet desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy” –1 Corinthians 14:1. And what is prophecy? “He who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men” –1 Corinthians 14:3. And who can speak? “You can all prophesy one by one, that all can learn and all be exhorted” –1 Corinthians 14:31. And what shall the rest do? “Let the others pass judgment” –1 Corinthians 14:29. Simple. That is Bible Blessing, not Bible Babble.

3 Perish Pastors

No, that’s not a typographical error. Perish Pastors is correct. “For the Pastors have become stupid and have not sought the Lord. Therefore they shall not prosper and all their flocks shall be scattered” –Jeremiah10:21. The pastors are stupid; why would they not perish?

The Hebrew lexicon defines this word as: “brutish, stupid, dull-hearted, unreceptive, inhuman, cruel, barbarous.” Our Bible translations reflect these sentiments and we experience the reality of it.

Why are the pastors stupid? Because they have not sought the Lord. Why will they perish? Because they are brutish, foolish, dull-hearted, stupid, unreceptive, inhuman, cruel, and barbarous. What will happen to the ignorant and misguided flocks who follow them? They will be scattered.

So, Perish Pastors seems to be quite fitting, don’t you think? All references to “Pastors” in the KJV Bible are: 7 in Jeremiah and 1 in Ephesians 4:11. That’s all. And the picture they paint is not pretty.

“The Pastors also transgressed against Me and did not know Me” –Jeremiah 2:8. Sinful Pastors who do not know the Lord and His Word will perish. “Many Pastors have ruined My vineyard” –Jeremiah 12:10. Pastors who spoil the fruitfulness of God’s own pleasant inheritance, His people, will perish.

“The wind will sweep away all your Pastors because of all your wickedness” –Jeremiah 22:22. “‘Woe to the Pastors who are destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture: Pastors who have driven them away and not attended to them! I will pour out judgment on you for the evil you have done’” –Jeremiah 23:1,2. Wrath is the portion of these wicked Perish Pastors.

“Woe, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding themselves! You butcher the best sheep, but let your flocks starve! You’ve not taken care of the weak or tended the sick: nor bound up the injured, nor sought those who have wandered and are lost; but with harshness, force and cruelty you dominated them!

“The Lord God says: ‘I consider these shepherds My enemies. I will stop them! I will rescue My flock from their mouths; the sheep will no longer be their prey’” –Ezekiel 34:1-10.

Perish Pastors hire comedians because the church to them is a joke; but the flock is not laughing. Perish Pastors orchestrate concerts and sensual amusing entertainment while the sheep starve. Prosperity is prophesied by Perish Pastors while extorting money from impoverished harassed followers.

“Pasture the flock doomed for slaughter. Their buyers slaughter them and go unpunished. Those who sell them say, ‘Praise the Lord, I have become rich!’ Even their own shepherds have no compassion for them. Woe to the worthless shepherd who abandons the flock!” –Zechariah 11:4,5,17.

Jesters and jugglers, charlatans and cheats, barbarians and businessmen: All proudly recline, cushioned at their shrines’ high-tables. Dens of thieves, houses of merchandise, corrupted cathedrals: Therein the reigning Reverends of riches reside. Peddling the Word of God for profit, extorting the flock with false words, infamous for filthy lucre: These are the despicable Perish Pastors.

Ranking first among them in the pages of the New Testament was the autocrat, Diotrephes. He was the CEO of an empire of envy: enforced by sanction, and controlled by coercion. In his tyrant petty kingdom, he served as lord, legislator, judge, jury, and executioner all in one. None dared to challenge or contradict him except John, an apostle. But John himself fared no better at his hands than even the least.

“I wrote something to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, will have nothing to do with us. Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, talking nonsense about us and maliciously gossiping with wicked words. And not being satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brethren himself, but hinders and stops those who want to do so and throws them out of the church!” -3 John 9,10. Jesus the Lord has “first place in everything” –Colossians 1:18, but Diotrephes shoulders Christ aside to occupy that place. Christ welcomes the brethren, but this Perish Pastor throws them out.

O God, deliver us from worthless wicked Perish Pastors! He will. “I Myself will search and find My sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered. I will bring them back home in pleasant places and feed them in lush pastures. I Myself will tend My sheep and give them a place to lie down in peace. So I will rescue My flock and they will no longer be abused” –Ezekiel 34:11-22.

“Then I will give you Pastors according to My own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding” –Jeremiah 3:15. But then the Perish Pastors will have been no more.
